I was extremely disappointed by the incompetence of the nursing staff. there did not seem to have common protocols for basic med-surg unit. inexperienced phlebotomists without time to warm pack extremities. nurses would not listen to the patient (who is a nurse), argumentative even with lack of knowledge, leading to further unnecessary complications and prolonged hospital stay. after massive blood loss and symptomatic, no transfusion until patient threatened to call 911 to be transferred to a competent hospital. would not recommend to anyone except to uncomplicated birthing experience.

The volunteers who greeted us and gave my companion an orientation were great. The pre-op room was a bit too tightly scheduled, and my nurse was flustered when she could not get my IV going. I also did not have adequate time to speak to my physician before the surgery. Though most of the nurses were great, I was given a dinner of liquids; no accommodation was made for food for me if I did well with the liquids (which I did). Famished from not eating for 24 hours, I was offered only trashy food like Jello. I slept poorly, and my stomach ached all night due to hunger. I loved the alternative medicine/aromatherapy/massage options, and the physical therapist's time with me was invaluable--he was simply fabulous. Our final hours were difficult; my husband got stuck in traffic, and once past our anticipated departure time, the nurses ignored me. The physical facilities were nice, but there was not enough staff on the overnight shift; I was supposed to be the "easy" patient, and when I had problems (like being hungry), I bothered the night nurse. Could the kitchen be open a bit later? Could someone have anticipated that a healthy woman might be hungry after 24 hours with no food? I'd go again if necessary but with my own food.
